After its official launch in December 2023, the MENA RSOO (Middle East and North Africa Regional Safety Oversight Organization) Steering Committee meets in Riyadh on May 21, 2024. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej the President of the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, in addition to His Excellency Joan Carlos Salazar the Secretary-General of ICAO, and His Excellency Abdulnabi Manar the Director-General of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, and attended by their excellencies head of CAAs of MEAN RSOO states members and distinguish representatives from States from the region and International Organizations as observers.
The meeting coincided with the holding of the Future of Aviation Conference, which was organized by the General Authority of Civil Aviation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over three days (May 20-22), at the King Abdulaziz International Convention Center in Riyadh. The Chairman of the Steering Committee and representatives of ICAO and the Arab Organization delivered speeches on this occasion.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments on the MENA RSOO, including information about the regional safety oversight organizations (RSOOs) currently existing in the world, and their classification based on their objectives and roles assigned. In addition, an overview on the main steps of the establishing of the MENA RSOO and its most important achievements. The mechanism for appointing the Managing director, as well as the future plan of the organization, was endorsed.
It is noteworthy that the Regional Safety Oversight Organization in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA RSOO), whose headquarters is in the city of Riyadh, aims to enhance the use of civil aviation and develop it in a safe and effective manner within and outside the organization’s member states, and to develop guidance materials and conduct studies, training and consultations.
