The Arab Civil Aviation Organization participates in the emergency meeting of joint Arab action institutions to support Sudan

The General Directorate of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization, headed by His Excellency Eng. Abdenbi Manar, Director General of the Organization, participated on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, in the emergency meeting of joint Arab action institutions to support Sudan face the damage and losses due to the unprecedented torrential floods. The meeting was held via videoconference.

During the meeting, the joint Arab action organizations and federations were asked to accelerate the provision of urgent support, each in its respective field of competence, through the procurement of urgent humanitarian and relief assistance to the Sudanese people. It was decided to establish an operations room at the Arab League to ensure the follow up related to the developments of the situation in Sudan and coordinate the Arab relief provided to Khartoum. In addition, it was agreed during this meeting that the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development is the representative of the League of Arab States and the mechanism for receiving humanitarian, medical and food aid, in addition to providing financial support to those affected and small farmers.

In a speech by the Sudanese ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Muhammad Elias, explained the most important needs to support Sudan, especially in terms of building dams and bridges and treating beach land depressions resulting from the floods. He also presented a detailed report on the food and medical needs, tents and spray pesticides to fight Insects, mosquitoes and malaria spread, stressing that Sudan is undergoing a catastrophic situation and needs urgent and effective Arab and international support, and assistance in repairing infrastructure and house collapses.

His Excellency Eng. Abdenbi Manar presented the vision of the General Directorate of the organization in dealing with such a scourge. His Excellency indicated that this ordeal must be transfigured into a benefit through concerted efforts among all stakeholders, accelerating the laying of the foundations to establish a fund to support disasters and epidemics, as mentioned above. He furthermore presented proposals to support this fund.

It is worth noting that it was agreed to send a plane in the name of the Arab League, next Tuesday, to carry urgent humanitarian and relief aid, provided that an Arab delegation would accompany those aids to announce the volume of direct financial support to Sudan.
